Earth Tongues' performances in fact fall somewhere between a concert and an immersive sound environment. The audience is free to move freely in the space and the ensemble does not perform on stage, or become the visual focal point, but rather it blends with the space in an attempt to break the barrier between the audience and the performer. The ensemble's performances last anywhere between 2 and 4 hours without a break during which the trio explores the acoustics of the space in depth. The ensemble’s music slowly and subtly develops in time inviting the audience members to immerse themselves into the environment and gain awareness to the relationships between the sound, the architecture and physiognomy of their surroundings. Each different room and audience influences the musicians and consequently shapes the character of the improvisations to a vast degree making each performance unique and unpredictable.
