Dave Meder Trio

Dave Meder and his trio take center stage for our 50th @exuberance salon.

Isaiah J. Thompson pitched him to me a few months ago. They were both finalists in last year’s Thelonius Monk competition. Dave is also a finalist in this year’s American Pianist Awards with our friend Emmet Cohen. He has played at Dizzy’s, Smalls, Kitano and jazz festivals from Tokyo to Torino. Mr. Meder is now the youngest faculty member for our country’s oldest jazz program—at the University of North Texas.

His debut album Passage is a sumptuous offering reflecting deep immersion in this music, and the influence of mentors like George Cables, Kenny Barron and Fred Hersch. Each track is a jewel—two of them cameo appearances by Miguel Zenón and Chris Potter. ...

Joining the pianist:

Dean Torrey was just here in June for a spellbinding evening with Dayramir González. He has worked with Muhal Richard Abrams, Thurman Barker, Rodney Green, Francisco Mela, Ed Cherry, Tivon Pennicott, Micah Thomas, Immanuel Wilkins and the Onyx Collective.

Kenneth Salters has worked with luminaries in jazz and R&B including Don Byron, Chris Potter, and Aretha Franklin, Myron Walden, Oz Noy, Bert Ligon, Micheal Dease, Wycliffe Gordon, Fred Wesley, Steve Houghton, Gordon (Dick) Goodwin and Ron Westray.
