Logo of The Kimmel Center - Commonwealth Plaza Architect Rafael Vinoly's dramatic glass-and-steel vault along the Avenue of the Arts contains a cello-shaped, mahogany-swathed concert hall, a more modern, 650-seat hall for chamber music, dance, and drama, an interactive education center, 'black box' theater space, gift shop, parking, and dining. The city's opera, orchestra, and ballet companies perform here, as do visiting talent in music, dance, and speaking. Tickets for both the Kimmel and the Academy of Music are sold during the day at the Kimmel Center box office. The Kimmel also presents frequent free performances by jazz artists, DJs, singing groups, folk ensembles, and more in its main Commonwealth Plaza, usually in the early evening or afternoon
