About

The New York City drummer Barry Altschul was a member of Circle, the innovative experimental jazz ensemble featuring Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Anthony Braxton, which released several stunning albums in the early-1970s on Blue Note and ECM. Altschul continued working with Braxton—sometimes alongside other AACM members such as Roscoe Mitchell, Leo Smith and George Lewis—and has worked with Paul Bley, Art Pepper, Lee Konitz and Andrew Hill. He was also featured on the classic Dave Holland album Conference of the Birds.

Altschul's 3dom Factor brings together two musicians with whom he has collaborated on several occasions. He worked frequently with Joe Fonda in FAB Trio with Billy Bang, and Altschul has most recently worked with the saxophonist Jon Irabagon on the album Foxy, released in 2010 by Hot Cup. Fonda, a member of the long-running Nu Band, has played with Archie Shepp, Bill Dixon and Han Bennink. Irabagon, a Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition winner, has worked with Vijay Iyer, Lou Reed and Evan Parker; he is also a member of Mostly Other People Do The Killing, with Peter Evans, Moppa Elliott and Kevin Shea.

In celebration of Altschul's 70th birthday, tonight the trio will perform pieces from its debut album, The 3dom Factor
