Zellerbach Theatre Founded in 1971, the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts is a leading non-profit multi-disciplinary performance venue in Philadelphia offering a varied program of more than 170 performances each year through its professional performing arts arm PENN Presents. Its mission is to serve the University of Pennsylvania and the greater Delaware Valley region as a comprehensive performing arts center of national reputation, distinguished by a broad-based program of music, theatre, dance, arts education and outreach for adults and young people.

The Annenberg Center serves the greater Philadelphia area and attracts over 175,000 people annually to PENN Presents' performances, as well as to numerous outside arts, university, civic and corporate events. In 1999, the Annenberg Center branded its professional performing arts series PENN Presents, representing its extended presence to venues outside the physical domain of the Annenberg Center, including Irvine Auditorium and the Iron Gate Theatre.

In keeping with its rich tradition of presenting a varied program of established artists and artists new to Philadelphia, PENN Presents' roster for the 2002/2003 season will include performances ranging from the Philadelphia debut of Harry Connick, Jr.’s amazing young protégé Peter Cincotti, and from Philip Glass and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra to South Africa’s esteemed Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Also making its debut in Philadelphia is the delightful Irish comedy, “Stones in His Pocket”. The season also marks the 20th anniversary of Dance Celebration, presented with Dance Affiliates, which includes performances by the National Dance Company of Spain and Australian Dance Theatre as well as internationally acclaimed dance companies from the United States, including the Paul Taylor Dance Company.

PENN Presents’ children’s programs and outreach activities have always played major roles at the Annenberg Center. The Student Discovery Series features 16 school matinees of theatre, music and dance throughout the season, while a highlight of every season since 1984 has been The Philadelphia International Children’s Festival. This Festival, the largest and oldest of its kind in the U.S., includes more than 60 performances that are designed to educate, enlighten and entertain children.
